How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1997 88 oldsmobile?

How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1997 88 oldsmobile? Someone said it would be a easy fix but after looking under the hood the serpentine belt goes through the motor mount. If you take the nuts off the motor mount to get the serpentine belt on will it make the engine shift? Do you need a lift to hold the engine in place?|||Without a lot of beatin-around-the -bush.............. yes you need to support the engine, ( A short block of wood %26amp; a jack ) support the engine securely,......... remove the top motor mount, and replace the belt,...........then replace the motor mount. One of GM 'S great ideas to make the belt go around the motor mount !|||Thanks. Ended up paying 150ish because other reasons besides just the serpentine belt. I may have gotten screwed but its fixed :) $ = :(

|||Some of the GM cars require the mount to be removed to replace the belt. I supported the engine with a piece of 2X4 on a floor jack at the pan. Its hard to believe the engineers would do this but they did. It is a head scratcher but remain calm and take your time and you will do fine.|||First you need a serpentine belt tensioner wrench to release the tension on the belt tensioner. Once this is done the belt should come off easily. Be sure you check the diagram under the hood for the reinstallation of the serpentine belt.|||They are wrong you need to put a jack under the engine and unbolt the mount. The belt is kept tight with a spring loaded tensioner|||Get a jack and a board under the oil pan, jack up, remove nuts, remove top of mount|||look under your hood on top by the latch there should b a diagram or go buy a repair manual itll b in there to
