Where is the neutral safety switch on 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera?

1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

3.3L V6

And would a bad neutral safety switch cause the

car to not even click when trying to start it

but allow all lights and radio to work?

Just like a second opinion.

(Don't like to throw parts at cars and expect them to run)|||OK Dale,

On the side of the transmission, where the cable from the shift lever attaches, there should be a box with 6 - 10 wire plug attached to it. Thats the Manual Lever Position Sensor, or also called the neutral safety switch (in a manual transmission)

Did you check the reverse lights%26gt; if theyre not coming on then likely the power to the swich is interrupted. it uses the same circuit to power the start solenoid.

There are twosmall screws that can be released, and then rotate the switch forward or back to get contact for starting.

The MLPS ONLY interrupts signal to the starter when the trans in in a motion gear, AND signals backup lights to be on when in reverse (So the car wont start while in gear, causing unexpected movement of the vehicle. the other accessories are unaffected like radio and lights

Good luck again,

Hank|||On the transmission linkage?
