i want to buy a transmission for my 1987 oldsmobile cutlass because when i reverse it takes a while to kick in reverse.is it worth buying a transmission or just taking it to a mechanic to rebuild it?|||Hm, well if you know how to install a transmission, you could check out the auto wreckers and grab yourself a tranny, and you and your friends could install it.
if you don't know much about it, i suggest just taking it to a mechanic.
But it sounds like you don't need a new transmission, your old one probably just needs an adjustment.|||Rebuild would probably be cheaper than buying a new one and paying to have it dropped in. The key word being 'probably'. But if it's not, or you just want a new tranny period, then check to see if you live near a Pull-A-Part. You have to get the parts off the car yourself, but it's damn cheap (under 100$ for tranny I believe). If there's not one near you, then try craigslist.
