Whats the easiest way to remove a steering column on a 1990 oldsmobile?

well the steering wheel column on my 1990 oldsmobile ninety eight is very loose and was told by this mechanic guy that i needed to replace the steering column (im assuming all the way to rack pinion) so i was wondering how do i remove this the best easiest way, because im planning on going to the pick n pull and get it from there.......some tips and pointers.....or suggestion will help a lot|||It's not has bad has you might thank . You will have one bolt threw the steering knuckle that slides over the steering shaft, which is located under the hood ,now remove the lower panel that's below the steering column,un plug the wiring harness for the column ,check to see if there's any screw at the bottom of the steering column that holds the rubber boot on,now remove the four nuts that holds the steering column up. should be ready to come out.|||The bottom is easy, because there is just a pinch bolt on the clamp to the rack shaft, and a small bolt on the column.

But the top has 4 shear bolts that have to come out of under the dash.

The best way I know how to do that is not with a drill, but by knocking then around in a circle, unscrewing them as you go, with a hammer and chisel. You are not trying to cut off any of the metal, but just trying to get a bite into the remaining rounded shoulder of the bolt.
